Authorities with the Anne Arundel County police reported that a head-on collision claimed the lives of both involved drivers. According to reports, the accident occurred on Dec. 15 on Central Avenue West in Davidsonville.
A 22-year-old man driving an Audi apparently drifted over the center line near Beards Point Road. Upon doing so, the man’s vehicle collided head-on into a Yaris being driven in the opposite direction by a 60-year-old woman. Emergency responders pronounced the woman dead at the accident scene. The 22-year-old was transported to the hospital for treatment of his serious injuries, where he later died.
Officers indicated they believe driver error caused the accident. Because they allegedly smelled an odor of alcohol emanating from the 22-year-old man’s car, they also believe that alcohol may have been a factor in the accident’s cause. Toxicology samples were taken and law enforcement investigators are still awaiting results from the testing.
Unfortunately, many people die as a result of car accidents every year. Reportedly, 28 people in Anne Arundel County have died in 2014 in fatal car accidents. When people die in drunk driving accidents, the families of those wrongfully killed are left to mourn the loss of their loved ones. Additionally, families often have significant expenses associated with their loved one’s passing. Families that file wrongful death civil lawsuits against the drunk drivers may be able to recover damages if the driver is found to have been negligent. When the drunk driver also dies, damages may still be available when the civil lawsuit names the driver’s estate as the defendant. Families may benefit by speaking with a personal injury attorney who has experience in wrongful death cases.
