Medical malpractice news: Doctor ordered to stop seeing patients

Published on Nov 15, 2017 at 12:58 pm in General Blogs.

Many people around the country, including those here in Maryland, trust that when a doctor claims to be able to diagnose, treat or operate on a patient, he or she can actually back up that claim. Unfortunately, many medical malpractice cases here and elsewhere stem from a doctor or surgeon’s lack of experience in a certain area. Nevertheless, some continue to practice medicine, which jeopardizes the safety and health of their patients.

For instance, a doctor in another state was recently barred from practicing medicine while claims against him are being investigated. He is accused of gross or willful negligence, and the medical board in his state says he is an immediate danger to the public. The obstetrician performed plastic surgery without first obtaining the proper training. He also used misleading advertising regarding his experience in the field in order to attract patients.

As if the situation could not get any worse, the doctor was found to suffer from a condition that impairs his abilities as a physician and/or surgeon. Reports did not indicate what that condition is, however. Considering the steps that the Iowa Board of Medicine felt it necessary to take in order to protect current and future patients from this doctor, he could face numerous legal actions against him for his actions.

Hopefully, Maryland does not have doctors or surgeons requiring this type of drastic action, but for the individuals who suffer harm due to medical malpractice, the situation is dire already. It may be beneficial to discuss the matter with an attorney. An explanation of rights and legal options could clarify whether litigation is an appropriate next step depending on the circumstances.
