Motor vehicle accident results in numerous injuries

Maryland’s roadways see more than their fair share of crashes. Whether a motor vehicle accident involves just one vehicle or several, the injuries can be catastrophic. While the injured recover at home or in hospitals, investigators work to determine fault and the factors that led to the crash.

This type of information could come in handy for several individuals and their families who suffered injuries in a recent crash here in Maryland. It happened on MD Route 140, also known as Taneytown Pike, on a recent Saturday evening at around 6 p.m. According to reports from the Maryland State Police, a speeding vehicle crashed into a van, which then hit a third vehicle.

In total, 12 people were involved in the crash. Seven of them suffered injuries, four of which required a helicopter ride to the hospital. At last report, all of the victims’ conditions were stable.

Six of the victims, which includes the driver believed at fault for the crash, were in one vehicle. The driver of the van was the seventh victim. Police say that when the investigation concludes, charges could result.

Any evidence discovered during the course of the official investigation could also help establish negligence in civil claims filed by the victims or their families. If prosecutors happen to secure a conviction for a crime connected to the accident, that too can help establish negligence. In a successfully litigated claim, the evidence proves that the injuries resulted from the negligence of another. As a result, the court may award damages to help with the financial losses that often accompany a motor vehicle accident.
