Victim of hit-and-run motor vehicle accident dies

Published on Sep 14, 2017 at 10:32 pm in Car Accidents.

Too many Maryland families have lost loved ones to car crashes. What may make the sorrow worse is when that loved one was left to die by a driver who failed to remain at the scene of a motor vehicle accident. Some of those accidents involve pedestrians who may have lived if they had received medical care as quickly as possible.

The problem is that some of the victims are not found right away. For instance, a pedestrian was found in a roadway on a recent Thursday night. His condition was critical, and emergency responders rushed him to a hospital in the area. Sadly, his injuries were too severe, and despite their best efforts, medical personnel were unable to save his life.

In the meantime, police in Prince George’s County are more than likely attempting to discover the identity of the driver who struck the man and left him for dead. These types of accidents often require the help of the public to locate the vehicle and driver responsible. Once found, that individual could face criminal charges in connection with fleeing the scene of an accident and the death of the pedestrian.

In addition to any possible criminal charges, the driver could also face a wrongful death claim from the surviving family members of the victim killed in this motor vehicle accident. If the evidence proves that negligence led to the death of their loved one, a Maryland civil court may enter an award of damages in their favor. Any restitution received through a successfully litigated claim could help with the financial losses incurred as a result of the victim’s untimely death.
